MOSAIC
Mosaic is a conceptual museum exhibit that explores the history of Indian indentureship in Jamaica through the lens of spice, food, and cultural exchange. Beginning in the mid-19th century, Indian laborers were brought to the Caribbean under indentureship, carrying with them culinary knowledge that would permanently shape Jamaican food and culture. This project traces how those traditions traveled through the lens of spice and its culinary impact.
This history is also personal. The Indian indentureship is how part of my family came from India to Jamaica, making this project both a research-based exploration and a reflection on my own family’s past. Taking all of that in to account, I made it a point to acknowledge the history of these events while also displaying the vibrance of this meshed culture.
